PIN IT TO SAVE IT FOR LATER :)

THE BODY
Starting with a chain :
ch110 (body length ±50 cm) or more (adults can be 1,30 m) and continue in rounds.

Belly in beige
R1. 2dc-cl in 3rd ch from hook, 2dc-cl in each st across, dc in final st of row, ch 1 (does't count, don't turn) (2 ch, 107 2dc-cl, 1 dc)

Sides in light brown
R2. 4 sc into the side of the previous dc to form side A (4)
1 sc in each st on the other side of the chain (107)
4 sc into the beginning ch to form side B (4)
1 sc in each st (107)
R3. 1 inc, 2 sc, 1 inc into side A (6)
1 sc in each st (107)
1 inc, 2 sc, 1 inc into side B (6)
1 sc in each st, change colour in the last st (107)

Back in sand
R4. 1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc in side A (8)
1 sc in each st (107)
1 inc, 4 sc, 1 inc in side B (8)
1 sc in each st (107)
R5. 3 sc to arrive at the middle of side A (3), don't finish the round, don't cut the yarn.
Flip the work inside out, cool steam iron without pressing, place the metal rod and fill with enough cotton rope for thickness.
Bend the body WIP in half, join with slst along the sides.
When at side B (see the following picture), continue with 2 continuous rounds around the rope, finish with a slst.
Cut the yarn.
Cut the rope (too heavy to serve as head stuffing).
Keep some 4 cm of metal rod, blend the end to make a safer ending -> 3 cm.

You can already shape your snake body!

Note. I've begun with 1 strand of rope but then decided to use 2 strands for a better thickness.
EYES CONTOUR in sand
16 sc in a MR, end with 1 slst.
Place the eye.
Tighten the MR until the sc fit on the shape of the eye.
Cut the yarn, keep 20 cm for sewing later.
HEAD
Starting by the snoot with a chain and continue working around.
Please use a stitch marker to spot the beginning of each round.

In beige:
ch4
R1. 2 sc in 2d ch from hook, 1 sc, 3 sc in 1st ch, 1 sc, 1 sc (8)
R2. *1 inc, 1 sc* 4 times (12)
R3. 2 sc, *1 inc, 2 sc* 2 times, 4 sc (14)
R4. 2 sc, *1 sc, 1 inc* 3 times, 6 sc (17)

R11. 10 sc, 26 scM, ch9, skip the last 2 sc (36+ch9)

The hole at the base of the head is vertically centered with the snoot.

Place the eyes between R6 and R7, just above the change of colours.
Cut the beige yarn.
Start stuffing.

Continue in brown:
R12. 1 sc = new round beginning, 35 sc, *2 dec, 1 sc, 2 dec* into ch (41)
R13. *1 dec, 4 sc* 6 times, 5 sc (35)

Some thoughts

Thank to all of you in a great creative community, by your comments here in the blog and Instagram, by sharing your makes, through our love for handmade with heart and after a long time without doing it, I’ve finally decided to share this work freely with you to thank you for your creative support.

Pass your turn:

  • those who don’t have shame about appropriating the work of others, plagiarizing and accusing,
  • those who print screen blog posts, social networks stories… and sell them (I’ve spotted most of them on Etsy at less than 1€)
  • those brands and publishing houses which make DIY kits completely ‘inspired’ from our work,
  • those websites which share/copy free patterns from legitimate blogs thanks to automated technics and without any permission from the designers,
  • shame on computer-generated images which qui deceive a lot of people,
  • Etc… the list is long, doesn’t it ?

Thank you for checking the origin of the patterns you are interested in before a purchase or a download, all together makes it possible to struggle against all of them.

Makers gonna make ! So let’s get back to our topic: february is such a lovely month: slowly, the first flowers bloom, the first buds emerge.. Soon the almond trees will perfume this plateau where we live at almost 1000m altitude. This winter is particularly gray, wet and cold, Lily hoped to slip onto one of their branches but she will have to wait a little longer.

In Asian culture (my origins), snake is a symbol of intelligence and wisdom. I think about my mum who is a water snake. And you, do you know if you were born a snake ? These persons are commonly known for being curious, observant, charming, determined and having keen insight. Superstitious or not ? Anyway we’ll see each other with a hook on hand, looking forward to seeing your Lily !
✨🐍🏮
All the best,
Méli
